The 172nd Convention of the Diocese of California is scheduled for October 22-23, 2021, meeting virtually.
Almighty and everliving God, source of all wisdom and understanding, be present with those who take counsel in the Diocese of California for the renewal and mission of your Church. Teach us in all things to seek first your honor and glory. Guide us to perceive what is right, and grant us both the courage to pursue it and the grace to accomplish it; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
- from The Book of Common Prayer, p. 818
The Convention is the primary democratic governing body of The Episcopal Church in the Diocese of California, with parishes, missions, and institutions in seven counties of the San Francisco Bay Area. The offices of the Bishop and staff, and the cathedral of the diocese, Grace Cathedral, are located on Nob Hill in San Francisco.
The Convention is constituted by the canonically resident clergy of the Diocese and lay delegates elected annually by each congregation. The Bishop presides over regular and special meetings of the Convention, which, with the Bishop, sets diocesan policies, budgets, and priorities for mission and ministry. The Convention approves changes to the Diocesan Constitution and Canons and elects the primary diocesan governing officers, including the Bishop, members of the Standing Committee, representatives to the diocesan Executive Council, and deputies from the Diocese to the General Convention of The Episcopal Church.
